On Saturday morning, October 14, our class group joined kayakers from DFW Paddlers for a trip in Christmas Bay.
Along the way we passed flocks of birds, including the odd looking Marble Godwit fishing for breakfast
We paddled past grassy marshlands
Some members of the group took a break from paddling to engage in the seldom seen sport of crab racing.

Ann waits for Barb to land her boat and prepare lunch, while Chris tries out her Duck Call.
After lunch the group poses for a photo before setting out.

While the group was launching their boats a "shark" lurked along shore. Maybe it had heard about the delicious gourmet meals Cutter Aquatics provides on these trips and was looking for leftovers. Ann lookout behind you. Don't be too alarmed the fin is really a foam float cunningly crafted by John.

Pelicans and Cormorants monitored our progress as we paddled past the houses on Mud Flat Lane.
Ann and Dori paddle diligently into the wind, as we made our way back to San Luis Pass.
The group sprinted toward the beach as the San Luis Pass Bridge came into view on the left.
Ann and Barb rolled out of their sleeping bags early Monday morning to do some bird watching. The beautiful sunrise was a bonus.
